  • Translated Japanese fiction reading list

Published on under the Reading category.

My journey with Japanese fiction started with the Before the coffee gets cold series. I was originally attracted to the book because it was set in a coffee shop – an environment of which even the thought brings joy to me. As I read the first book, I was entranced by the way stories were told. I took delight in picturing how I would imagine the cafe in which the book is set, Funiculi Funicular, in my head. I was gripped by the characters and their relationships.

I care about how software makes me feel. Do I feel at ease when trying to accomplish a task? Do I feel empowered? Do I feel stressed at any point? Does the software bring me joy?

  • The bookstore

Published on under the Stories category.

I feel relaxed here, like I can just be. I smile, admiring the sun outside. I wrote in my notebook while gazing out a tall bay window at the cafe in one of my favourite bookstores. This year I am taking more notes on paper. I enjoy the feeling of putting pencil to paper and writing. Sometimes, I write notes. Other times, I write prose – whatever comes to mind.

I have loved the idea of having a bookshelf, but the cost and assembly requirements have always made me think twice.

  • Light

The weather has been dull lately. Grey clouds permeate the skies. It is winter. However, one day this week I woke up and saw sun shine peeking through the edges of the curtains. The sun was rising. When I went to open the curtains, I noticed a blue sky. When was the last time I saw a sky this blue and the sun like this?, I thought. It must have been at least a week, maybe two.

  • Airport pianos

Published on under the Music category.

In “An airport piano was filthy and out of tune. He fixed it during a layover.”, the story is told of a 21-year-old, Jackson, who helped bring Chicago O’hare’s baby grand piano back to life. The piano was ailing: with sticky keys, it was hard to play.
